The Best Time to Visit Victoria Falls (Month-by-Month)
One of the most common questions we get is: when is the best time to visit Victoria Falls? The honest answer is that it depends on what you want to see and do. Here is a season-by-season breakdown to help you plan.
February to May — Peak Water (The Big Flood)
After the rains, the Zambezi is in full flood and the falls are at their most powerful — up to 500 million litres per minute pour over the edge. The spray can rise hundreds of metres and may obscure the view, but the raw power is unforgettable. Pack a rain poncho.
June to August — The Sweet Spot
Cooler, dry weather with strong water flow and clearer views. This is peak tourist season and ideal for combining the falls with a safari, as animals gather around shrinking water sources. Book accommodation early.
September to January — Low Water & Devil's Pool
Water levels drop, revealing the rock face of the falls and opening Devil's Pool (August to January). This is the best time for adventure activities, rafting and seeing the geology of the gorge. The Zambia side may dry up in places, so the Zimbabwe side offers better views.
Our Recommendation
For the best all-round experience, visit between June and August: good water, great weather, and prime safari season. For Devil's Pool and adventure, aim for September to December. Whenever you come, we can tailor your activities and stay to the season — get in touch.
